swizz Posted 19 October , 2006 Share Posted 19 October , 2006 I'm not sure when the Poppy Appeal is officially 'launched' but this must be a pretty early sighting - I saw a man wearing a poppy on this jacket in a railway station in Belfast yesterday lunchtime. A first for the year? Swizz

swizz Posted 19 October , 2006 Author Share Posted 19 October , 2006 Aha - fair point. I should have phrased my question a bit more precisely!!
pooter Posted 19 October , 2006 Share Posted 19 October , 2006 That Asian Labour MP from Lancashire who always pops up to comment on the numerous issues we're now having with our Islamic friends was wearing one tonight. I always think that when we see all our TV presenters and guests on programmes wearing a poppy it's just because someone has brought in a large tray of them. I hope they contribute generously. Guest KevinEndon Posted 20 October , 2006 Share Posted 20 October , 2006 The official launch date is the 23rd October. Birmingham city centre has had its huge poppies up for over a week and I have been wearing my poppy for 2 weeks now, spotted one this morning whilst treting the wife to a bit of retail theropy which reminds me the last time I took her for some retail theropy I was wearing a poppy then. Happy aniversary sweetheart.

Gibbo Posted 20 October , 2006 Share Posted 20 October , 2006 I collected some dry cleaning on Monday (16 Oct) & the shop had a box of poppies & a collecting tin on the counter. I didn't get one then but I did get one from the butchers yesterday.
DMcNay Posted 20 October , 2006 Share Posted 20 October , 2006 I bought mine on Monday. Saw them being sold in my local bank, and took the opportunity to get one. My car has been wearing once since LAST October. It's gone pink now, so as soon as I get the chance, I'll get a new one.
gem22 Posted 20 October , 2006 Share Posted 20 October , 2006 Poppies should NOT be on display until 28 October unless the company/shop/bank concerned has made separate arrangements. However poppies can be worn all year round. The first official sighting of a poppy was on 1 Oct this year when the CEO of Northampton General Hospital was seen wearing one during a TV interview. Glenn Posted 21 October , 2006 Share Posted 21 October , 2006 The official launch date this year is the 28th October to cover the remembranctide fortnight. There is nothing wrong with anybody trying to distribute poppies or wearing them before hand, free publicity and awareness is to be encouraged. Guest KevinEndon Posted 21 October , 2006 Share Posted 21 October , 2006 I will send £30 to the poppy appeal for the best photograph of a poppy in a prominent place, handing one to Tony Blair or someone like that would stand a great chance. No superinposed poppies will be allowed. I will along with Tafski decide who the winner is. All in fun. Kevin
