Majordecor Posted 18 October , 2006 Share Posted 18 October , 2006 Hello again! Could the attached photograph be Private Thomas Britt, Service No. 16605 Northamptonshire Regiment? This photo was discovered in Sidney Matthew's (aged 94) garage for decades; if it is T. Britt, he was Sidney Matthews uncle. Best regards, George Major. gnr.ktrha Posted 18 October , 2006 Share Posted 18 October , 2006 Hello, Sorry, but it looks like he is wearing a Royal Engineer badge Regards, Stewart PS have you checked his MIC to see if he was a RE ?
ian turner Posted 19 October , 2006 Share Posted 19 October , 2006 Could be difficult - there are two Thomas Britts on the MICs with Northants connections: Pvte 16605 Thomas Britt, Northants Regt. Pioneeer 128965 Thomas J Britt, RE. He had also been in the Northants with number 19514. CWGC carries next of kin info for both the above, as they were casualties. Maybe that can help you ID your man. CWGC has the Thomas J (=John) Britt RE number as 128968. Maybe a SDGW lookup would help as well. Ian

Majordecor Posted 19 October , 2006 Author Share Posted 19 October , 2006 Thank you, good people, for the information. I think my elderly client has made a mistake 'cos his uncle was the Northants T. Britt. Is it possible to tell from the picture whether its WW1 or WW2. I assumed that it would be WW1. I have a sneaking suspicion that the old photo he found was one of himself!!! However, if the picture is definitely WW1, that would be impossible! Kind regards, George Major.
ian turner Posted 20 October , 2006 Share Posted 20 October , 2006 I think my elderly client has made a mistake 'cos his uncle was the Northants T. Britt. George, Just to be sure - both the T Britts I mentioned had been in the Northants. So are you sure which is which? (See my last post). If your pic, with the R E badge, was T Britt then it could be your man, who had also previously served in the Northants? Ian
Stebie9173 Posted 20 October , 2006 Share Posted 20 October , 2006 Ian, Isn't the R.E. Britt you mentioned an ex-North Staffordshire man, and not Northants? 16605 T Britt, Northants Regiment, would have joined up in December 1914. Steve. P.S. By the way, he looks a bit like my great uncle (Northants + R.E.)
ian turner Posted 20 October , 2006 Share Posted 20 October , 2006 Aren't I silly?!! Yes, cannot tell my Northants from my North Staffs.... Perhaps a case of wishful thinking. Sorry George, thanks Steve. Ian
