wilkokcl Posted 15 October , 2006 Share Posted 15 October , 2006 I've been given a hint that a soldier i'm researching became a "King's Messenger" after 1918. It's not something I had heard of but googling it suggests some sort of guardian for state/military documents who travelled around the world as a courier. The Royal Archives at Windsor have not heard of him and suggest his rank (Major in the RFA) would have been too high for a royal connection. They suggest he may instead have been employed for the military or government as a messenger - presumably between the wars (or during it?) Can anyone add anything to this: what the role was, whether many soldiers were recruited for this, further places to research etc. Many thanks, Mark

walrus Posted 16 October , 2006 Share Posted 16 October , 2006 Mark, It might be worth trying to cotact the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, they might be able to point you in the right direction. Tom
