gnr.ktrha Posted 13 October , 2006 Share Posted 13 October , 2006 Hello, Does anyone have any information on the 20th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, 33rd Division and what they were doing between the 10th to 20th April 1917? Thanks for looking. Stewart
sotonmate Posted 13 October , 2006 Share Posted 13 October , 2006 Stewart It seems that 20 Royal Fusiliers were part of 19 Brigade 33 Division and were involved in Arras/Vimy Ridge at about that time. There were 3 Battles of the Scarpe(river),the first was 9-14 April (Vimy Ridge) the second 23-28 April was Hill 70 and the third for Fresnoy. I have found that they were listed as being involved in the 2nd Scarpe by examining a site for 33 Division but haven't found a connection earlier than this. There is a good account of these battles in Haig's Despatches at: http://www.firstworldwar.com/source/haigca...917despatch.htm and scroll down for the Spring offensive for 1917. The Battalion's War Diary is at the National Archives Kew under WO95/2423 period Nov1915 to Feb1918. Best wishes Sotonmate
