Chris_Baker Posted 1 January , 2003 Posted 1 January , 2003 I have been researching an officer who ended the Great War as a substantive Lieutenant, although he had a time as an Acting Captain (he relinquished this when his battalion was disbanded). He was commissioned in the TF. He is known to have served in the later war as a Captain in the Home Guard. No, he is not Mr Mainwaring! Can anyone tell me whether his later rank was due to a promotion, or some other arrangement?
Terry_Reeves Posted 1 January , 2003 Posted 1 January , 2003 Chris I think you will find the arrangements for the Home Guard were completely different and did not take into account any former rank. For instance CH Foulkes who commanded the Special Brigade in WW1 and retired as a Major General in 1930, served as an active member of his local Home Guard unit as a Major. I'm sure there will be many similar examples. Terry Reeves
