Guest Posted 12 October , 2006 Share Posted 12 October , 2006 hi all i am researching my partners grand father who served in the above regiment and was kia in arras on 9/04/1917 we where told he was killed whist collecting water for his trench but this can not be confirmed, we have also been to kew to do research but to no luck therehis deatails are:- private richard collins service number? either 37561 or 35761 son of william richard and mary anne collins husband of mrs m of 46 virgil st liverpool L5 we are looking for medals awarded witth confirmation if poss (no medal card in index) any related info we have also been to arras and seen his name on the memoriol (bay 3) but we can not find any other information it would be a great help if some one could help. please leave message either this site or at k.pag@tiscali.co.uk Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Promenade Posted 12 October , 2006 Share Posted 12 October , 2006 Hello, Firstly to confirm his number was 37561 ('Soldiers Died' is in error - 35761 was allocated to Pte J Hopwood). His number indicates that he enlisted in the closing weeks of 1915 (possibly in the opening week of 1916). This means that he would have been awarded the British War and Victory Medals as he was drafted abroad after 31/12/15. Strangely I lived in Virgil St in the early 1960's - you are probably aware that it was heavily bombed in WW2 and then almost completely chaged when the Wallasey tunnel opened.
