Hi, does anyone have any information as regards where 729. Pte F M Wood. 1st/4th btn KOSB. would have been fighting on 4/12/1915. He is buried at Portianos military cemetery and I know the KOSB were fighting at Gallipoli around this time but I have a nagging feeling they may have been withdrawn before this date to the Balkans. I may be completely wrong so if anyone could give me their thoughts it would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Rich

Hello,

Soldiers Died in the Great War records him thus:-

WOOD, Francis Melrose,

729, LCpl, 1/4th Bn, KOSB

Born - Newton Don, Roxburgh

Elisted - Kelso, Roxburgh

Residence - Kelso, Roxburgh

Died,

4/12/15

Dardanelles.

Note it records he Died, not Died of wounds or Killed in action. So it sounds as if he succumbed to illness.
