Myrtle Posted 11 October , 2006 Share Posted 11 October , 2006 I have been reading an account of a 17 year old Mid Wales soldier who went missing during the Battle of Loos while orderly to the co of the 2nd battalion Welsh Regiment. He was described as being only 2 months into his 17th year when he went missing. Does anyone know the name of the co ? Thanks Myrtle
Myrtle Posted 12 October , 2006 Author Share Posted 12 October , 2006 Well I've found out that 3 Brigade which was made up of 1st SWB, 1st Glos, 2nd Welsh and 2nd R.Munster Fusiliers was commanded by Brig Gen H.R. Davies at Loos but still trying to find out who commanded the 2nd Welsh at that time. Any Welsh Regiment experts out there? Myrtle
Bernard_Lewis Posted 12 October , 2006 Share Posted 12 October , 2006 Sorry Myrtle, the 2nd is not my patch and I don't have a reference book that will help. I'll keep my eyes open though. Bernard

Moriaty Posted 13 October , 2006 Share Posted 13 October , 2006 I think that Lieut Col C B Morland was the commanding officer of the 2nd at the start of the war, but by the Battle of Loos it was Lieut Col A G Prothero. Have a look at www.rrw.org.uk on the page for the Cardiff Castle museum is a link for some fact sheets which give details of history of the regiment during the Great War Moriaty
Myrtle Posted 13 October , 2006 Author Share Posted 13 October , 2006 Moriaty Thank you very much for both name and link. Do you by any chance know what the initials A G stand for ? I have had a look at Lieut Col Prothero's mic and it again just gives his initials. Myrtle
Moriaty Posted 19 January , 2015 Share Posted 19 January , 2015 Eight years after Myrtle asked me the question what A G Protheroe's initials referred to, I have just discovered that his first names were Archer George. Moriaty
