ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY

Can anybody shed some light on what regiment of the RGA my Grandfather would have served in?

His medal card shows Corps: RGA, Rank: Sgt, Regtl No. SR/3788 over 278788

Victory Medal RGA / 235 B(?) Pg 13619

British Medal (ditto)

I have tried tracing via the PRO but it's the 'burnt series' and it's burnt.

His name was George Galbraith - born Wallsend (Willington Quay) Tyneside approx 1895. I think he joined up into the Army from the (London) Metropolitan Police and spent some service in Jersey at Queen Elizabeth Castle.

Any help on how to find out more would be appreciated.

Thanks

It might be worth having a look at the medal rolls, this is the reference nos. to the right of Victory / War Medal, i.e. volume and page number.

Sometimes the battery number be it Siege or Heavy is entered next to his name. More often than not they aren't.

Also, does his MIC give an entry into theatre date? From this you may be able to narrow it down to a few batteries.

That's all I can think of trying.
