ororkep Posted 7 October , 2006 Share Posted 7 October , 2006 Costello, Ill not bother typing all the roman numerals so here goes, as ever the Royal Field Artillery is overly complicated in its movements: 277th Battery RFA (CCLXXVII) became A/89 bde, that along with the 86, 87, and 88th Brigades went to France with the 19th Division; the 89th arriving 18/7/1915. Originally a howitzer Brigade it was broken up in late 1916. Elements going to the 86, 87 and 88 brigades taking them from 4 guns to 6 guns. 1 went to B/130 bde, and left France for Salonica via Egypt. A/89 Bde became D/86th Bde 17/5/1916. Div seems to have been at Polygon Wood on the date you mentioned. 86 Bde was with the 5th Army from August to Oct 1917. The war diary at the NA WO95/2068 covers its entry to France but ends at Sept 1916 when it broke up. Regards
