Army Service Corps

Hi all,

back on line after a house move and eventually finding all my paperwork.

I have found a book "Army Service Corps 1902-1918" which shows all the ASC companies when formed, disbanded, theatre/order of battle and roll in WW1 etc and WO numbers, along with a lot of useful information.

I'm researching my Father-in-Law, who served in the ASC as a Machanic Regimental number M297818, he was 18 on 6 Aug 1915 and served in France from 1916 onwards (Medal Roll shows he was awarded the Victory and British war medals only)

I have had a delve through the Sister-in-Laws papers and found an embroidered card from my Father-in-Law with his Regt Number on and "3/8 Coy M/ASC".

In the above mentioned book it has 3 Coy but no WO number and 8 Coy but no WO number, no were can I find 3/8 Coy can anyone shed any light on 3/8 Company ASC.

Regards Barry

I just ran through several variations on a theme in WO95 but came up with nothing related to 3/8 company ASC.

What I did find was a seemingly useful reference which mates might like to make a note of under WO95/5494,which seems to have the answer to which unit was with whom from 1914-1918. It includes RA,ASC,MGC,AMC etc and quite a few offshoots from there. This is doubtless known by the elite here but bears a mention !

Best wishes

Hi, I'm researching my Grandad and wondered if your book sheds any light on his possible company.

I believe him to have been in the 11th Division (HQ) ASC at some point and I am trying to fit what I know with what I can find out. (I don;t know too much and what I do gets me more confused each day.)

George Peat Sneddon

Serjeant Acting Staff Quarter Master Serjeant

royal army service corps

s4/055789

gallipoli

cross of karageorge 2nd class with swords

DCM (mention in despatches)

where born camalty, west lothian

London Gazette Issue 29945 published on the 13 February 1917 page 10 shows

his KaraGeorge award and that he was a member of the Army Service Corps

London Gazette Issue 31446 published on the 8 July 1919 page 30 shows his DCM award and that he was a member of the 11 Div (HQ)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi.

the only info I can pass on is regarding his Regimental Number. The S indicates hes served in the Supply Trade and the 4 indicates he enlisted in the 4th Kitcheners Fourth Army. Hope that helps
