I would like to find any info on my Grandfather his details are as follows:-

THOMAS BANKS

BIRTH 24.2.1898

PLACE WIGAN, LANCS

ENLISTED TO 191ST LABOUR CORPS, DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY

DISCHARGED 23.11.1918

The questions I need answers to are:-

Why when he was born and lived in Wigan did he enlist to the Durham Light Infantry?

What Date did he enlist?

Where was he sent to?

Thomas was gassed and I would like to know what battle was being fought at that time

He lost an eye Did he lose this in the war?

I would be grateful for any help with answers to these questions as I am a total novice as researching Army Records.
