davidfegga Posted 3 October , 2006 Share Posted 3 October , 2006 Hello all A couple of questions. Was pay in the artillery the same as the equivalent rank in the infantry? How would an artillery man get to be a gun layer, was there a specific test for speed or maths etc? regards Dave
ororkep Posted 3 October , 2006 Share Posted 3 October , 2006 Dave, Attached a RFA recruitment poster that has some interesting pay and benefits details. Don’t know much about a gun layer except in ‘Ospreys British Artillery’ for a 26 How it says: in a detachment of 10, he was number 4, responsible for Laying (aiming) the gun, with no 1. Removes and replaces gun cover, Assists fitting of rocking bar sight, clamps dial sight, fits clinometer, directs No 6 with aiming posts. I thought you worked your way up the scale with several classes of gunnery proficiency badges before you got a distinctive layer L badge, and presume pay increments along the way. No idea in comparison to infantry. You need a forum ex artillery man to take over now. Regards
