sotonmate Posted 4 October , 2006 Share Posted 4 October , 2006 Costello I'm taking a look. You say that you want to know about his training before travel to the Western Front. Do you already know where he was when he got there ? I am finding a bit about the 4th West Lancs (Howitzer)Brigade RFA post 7 April 1916 if you don't know about that yet ! This unit changed its title around May 1916,as well as seemingly being part of the 55th West Lancashire Division. Your bit about the 36th Ulster Division says that he was posted to Base Depot when he arrived in France,so this seems to be a draft prior to appointment to a front line battery, maybe that was part of his training too.
