No sorry it goes all blurry and when i try to save enlargement it just goes back to normal size. The cap badge looks a bit like a french horn. If that helps.

Many thanks martin

Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry would be my guess, from the small size and general shape of the badge. Possibly TF Bn, tho' the size of the shoulder title might just be the horn of a LI title.

Martin

From the limited detail available my guess would be King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.

Pleased to help, not sure it does though! - even with a little sharpening it is still quite pixellated. Can you scan it at a higher resolution?

Hello Martin,

Do you know the id of the soldier, and is there any info on the reverse of the photo? I also notice you live in Wakefield, and I know it's a long shot, but assuming the insignia is KOLYI [T.A.], then the 4th KOYLI did their training at Morley. I posted a copy of the opening of their new drill hall in May 1912 on another thread. [Projects of National Importance?]

Kind Regards,

Dave

If he is TF KOYLI then it may seem unlikely that he was ever part of the New Army pioneer btns. of which 12th KOYLI was one as discussed elsewhere. If the photo is your g.grandfather that is.

Of course, there is no guarantee that it is a TF badge, as far as I can see, though I stand to be corrected.

Who was the photographer?

Simon - I started the TF bit running, based on the first photo. As I said, it was difficult to say - it is certainly a 'long' title, so a T might have been there. Looking at the larger post, I suspect it is just the bugle horn of a Light Infantry title. Certainly can't see any Pioneer collar dogs.
