ZimRich Posted 30 September , 2006 Share Posted 30 September , 2006 I have found a comprehensive list of British POWs, not any officers, taken prisoner by the Turks at the surrender of Kut in 1916. If you need a lookup just ask. Rich

Light Bob Posted 9 October , 2006 Share Posted 9 October , 2006 Rich Would be glad to receive any information you have on the Somersets. I have been researching their prisoners in Germany and have several accounts of life in captivity, but nothing on those in Turkish hands. I know that some from the territorials were attached to the Dorsets at Kut and that the 1/4th were on the relief column but had not realised that any had been taken prisoner Thanks Brian

snavek Posted 9 October , 2006 Share Posted 9 October , 2006 Chris, I was talking to a member of the Royal Norfolk Museum last tuesday night about this topic, she advised me that the Museum also has a list. It may be worth dropping them a line. Keith

Light Bob Posted 31 October , 2006 Share Posted 31 October , 2006 Rich Sorry for belated reply Thanks for list of Somersets. I thought most of the SLI drafts had joined the Dorsets, however it seems that the unlucky one were those who wnt to the Ox and Bucks. Susan Tall Posted 10 March , 2007 Share Posted 10 March , 2007 Wondered if you had anything on Hubert Richard Faxon, a Driver, with the RFA, who died whilst a prisoner on 30th August 1916 at Kut. Thanks Sue

ZimRich Posted 4 April , 2007 Author Share Posted 4 April , 2007 Hi Sue, sorry for the delay in posting I haven't checked the thread for a while. Dvr H 69940 Faxton RFA is on the official lists as having been taken POW but there is no more info about him. I can send you a copy of that part of the list if you like? Neil, I have all the men taken POW at Kut from the RWK on an excel file. I managed to find the casualty list whilst researching one of my medal trio's to the RWK. He was wounded in the defence of Kut, taken Prisoner and then died or was killed on the infamous march through the desert. If you give me your e-mail I'll send you over a copy.
