RQMS Albert Cole MM, No. 7314, 1st Cameronians

Hoping one of resident Gazette Guru's could help me locate a Military Medal list on the London Gazette. Its for a Regimental Quarter-Master Serjeant (possible earlier rank) Albert Cole, Number 7314, 1st (?) Cameronians.

I have found his MID entry, but can't find his MM. He has a medal index card for the MM, and his obit has him as Major Albert Cole MM, but I can't for the life of me find it on the gazette. I haven't been able to locate it in the war diary either, so I'm guessing it may be for an New Years Honours list or something like that. He finished up as a Major with the 7th Territorial Battalion Scottish Rifles after retiring from the regs in 1922.

Any help greatly appreciated,

Barrie

Do you have the medal card for the MM?

Fraid not, and as its sort of work related I aint forking out the £3.50 to view it either :D

I thought his service number would have pulled it up, but no joy with that.

Just when I thought I was getting good at the gazette as well, ah well, good job we have the experts!

its a pig to use - Ive 5 coldstreamers that I cant find MMs for and Ive aksed here and tried too - the MID was easy enough

Smudges on the page stop you finding things esp if the number is obscured

I have to confess, I downloaded the MM index card, which gave me the gazette date of 14/9/16. I searched for 4 days either side of that date and eventually found it.

I dont think it can find the service number because it's at the start of the line, and given the complexity of his rank abbreviations combined with his name, little surprise we coudn't find it.

Ian,

I have a compiled list of MMs for 1916 and 1917. If you need to find the remaining Coldstream Guards, they may be on that list. I will check when my PC is fixed if you let me know the names.

Steve.

P.S. If you search for Military Medal in the Search box then you will turn up 90% of the MM Gazettes.
