Simon R Posted 5 November , 2003 Share Posted 5 November , 2003 Dear All, I have come across several references to one Cygnac Redoubt in or near the Leipzig Salient at Thiepval within old comrades accounts - is this simply an eariler (i.e.pre 1st July) term for the Thiepval fortress, or is it abhorrent, mis-placed and innacurate? Is it just an earlier term for the Leipzig redoubt? Can anyone give me a trench map reference?
Guest Hussar Posted 9 November , 2003 Share Posted 9 November , 2003 Don't know of it but Cygnac is a derivation of Cognac or, more precisely, a type of Armagnac. So, it may have been a place, in that area were there was a Vineyard and/or Chateu where they produced Brandy before the War.
Simon R Posted 13 November , 2003 Author Share Posted 13 November , 2003 Well I know Atkins liked his rum but I'm not too sure about this one. It's entirely likely this could be a typo. so I think I'll leave this one for now. Simon.
