Ian C Posted 4 November , 2003 Share Posted 4 November , 2003 I believe that this trench was in the Thiepval area, does anyone know its exact position or where I can get a map that might show it/ Thanks Ian C
Guest Pete Wood Posted 4 November , 2003 Share Posted 4 November , 2003 Your trench is on Thiepval Ridge, just off Regina Trench

David_Bluestein Posted 4 November , 2003 Share Posted 4 November , 2003 Nicholson's history of the CEF has some very detailed maps of the Somme, including Kenora, Regina, Desire etc.: Canadian Expeditionary Force 1914-1918 Official History of the Canadian Army in the First World War By Colonel G.W.L. Paul Reed Posted 4 November , 2003 Share Posted 4 November , 2003 Kenora Trench is not exactly on the Thiepval Ridge; it is on a piece of high ground north of Courcelette village and was captured in fighting that later became known as the Battle of Thiepval Ridge (the day Thiepval itself was taken). It linked into Regina Trench at one point, and became the base for many attacks on this trench, which did not fall until November 1916. There is quite a lot of information in the fighting there in my book Courcelette in the 'Battleground Europe' series: http://battlefields1418.50megs.com/books_b...y_paul_reed.htm Which unit/soldier are you researching who fell there? Ian C Posted 4 November , 2003 Author Share Posted 4 November , 2003 Paul, I am researching: Private Cyril Ralph Hill, 192242 Quebec Regiment, 42nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Who died from wounds on 9 October 1916 and is buried at Warloy-Baillon. He is remembered on my local war memorial at Fenny Stratford, Milton Keynes. Paul Reed Posted 4 November , 2003 Share Posted 4 November , 2003 If you email me, I can send you the extract from the regimental history - unless you already have it?
