John S Posted 14 September , 2006 Share Posted 14 September , 2006 No photo to look at but if L/CPL Marston (Grave IID.14) is one of them then according to de Ruvigny he was killed during a night attack. It also says he was one of the best shots and often acted as a sniper. Regards John
6th Shropshires Posted 14 September , 2006 Share Posted 14 September , 2006 Hi BIFFO According to SD 11 men of the 10/K.R.R.C. were killed on the 13th March 1916, 8 are buried in II.D.14, one in II.D.13, one in II.D.12 and one in II.D11, although CWGC gives the date of death for last man as 14th March. The 20th Division held the line from the canal bank to Pratt Street, just north-west of Wieltje. The 20th Division's History records very little for March 1916. The Division was heavily engaged during February and mid April but nothing is reported for March. The history does record that the Division began a series of artillery bombardments on 20th February, which were carried out daily up to the 25th, and continued after that date at frequent intervals. These bombardments produced retaliation, which did much damage. The night attack mentioned by John may have been a retaliation bombardment more than a attack ?
