Remembering Private Alfred Henry Bailey 281828 (and 4431 from medal card)

of the 1st/4th Bn London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers)

who died today 9th September 1916

no known grave.

I believe this to be the elder brother of my husbands grandmother.

Alfred was born in 1898 in Hackney and was living in Homerton when he enlisted

('Soldiers died' confirm that the above was born and living in the right area).

He enlisted twice under age to follow his elder brother Joseph who had enlisted (about 14.7.1915),

the first time his mother got him back the second time not.

Unfortunately his medal card does not give any more information, his service record appears

not to have survived ( I ordered a film of service records for the relevant surname/first name

to my LDS Family History Centre to eliminate all the Alfreds) but do not know yet if the medal roll

will have any more clues.
