Desmond,

If you read the thread, you will see that it started because Sabine is researching 12 HLI and specifically those killed on 31/7/17. Lt F T Gardiner attached to the 12th HLI was the subject of our (intense) investigation as to where his grave went.

Pvte Greenwood was a 31/7/17 casualty and it was interesting to see where the other 12 HLI casualties of that day were buried. Some had been killed by shellfire and have no known graves, hence it was fruitful to check out the others from this battalion.

Desmond,

We all of us were 'all over the place' on that one too!

Anyway, hopefully Sabine picks up on your info here as she is the one on the 12 HLI trail.

Cheers

Excellent research. My great-uncle James Rainey kia 29/7/1918 among them.

I was amazed just how many "local to me" ie Portglenone soldiers are named here.

Well done again.

Desmond,

I have just joined this forum, but I have information on two of the men you mentioned. They would be my great, great uncles, the Kerr brothers from Newtown Crumlin (sp?)

I attach a copy of the war memorial card that puts faces to the men behind the names. I know that this is not the first time you have brought up this topic, and in fact a member of my family (who I don't know and have never met) replied to your earlier post on the subject back in 2006. I wonder how a person would go about trying to track this person down as I'm sure there is a lot of information that could be shared. My great grandmother (who died in 1992) was in the family home when the telegram arrived to announce of the loss, she barely remembered it as she would have been around nine years old at the time.

If you have any recollection of who this family member is, or any idea of how I could contact them I would greatly appreciate it.

Apologies folks - I was 'out' of the WW1 mould for a while but, inevitably, am back in. Thanks for input and if anyone wishes to resume contact on these issues, post away and I will see what I can do at a local level through FB etc??
