Frank_East Posted 28 December , 2002 Share Posted 28 December , 2002 Private Percy Lorriman a veteran of the Great War died on Friday 13 December 2002 at Pontefract, West Yorkshire. He was one week passed his 104th birthday. Percy joined the British Army in November 1916 and served in the Army Service Corps and later the Machine Gun Corps and Middlesex Regiment. In November 1998, Percy was one of the surviving Great War veterans who were honoured by the French Government with the award of the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur. Speaking to his local newspaper at the time, the Castleford and Pontefract Express, Mr Lorriman said."I appreciate the honour, but I don't make too much of a song and dance about it. I went to fight as a duty to my country". I don't know if he was included in the list of surviving Great War veterans published in the Daily Mail a couple of months ago.
