Evening all,

my great-grandfather Pte Adam H Buckle's MGC regimental number is 30910 and he didn't previously belong to another regiment. Would I be right in estimating that he entered service in about March 1916? How long would his training have lasted?

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Marc

Yes, I've got it - he was eligible for the BWM and the VM but that's all the info there is. The fact he wasn't eligbile for the 14/15 star fits in with my guess (I think). I've read that ca. 30,000 men were initially transferred from other regiments in to the MGC so, based on that, 30910 would be a very early 'new' man..?

Cheers,

M

I've not got it at my fingertips but there was a strand on here on MGC numbering blocks earlier in the year. That will help.
