Ilbury Welsh Posted 21 August , 2006 Share Posted 21 August , 2006 Why would the RNVR have Armoured Cars? JOhn
michaeldr Posted 22 August , 2006 Share Posted 22 August , 2006 At the outbreak of the war the Navy including its reserves, had a surplus of manpower over and above what it required for its fleet, and it had in its First Lord, Winston Churchill, an administrator who was neither hide bound nor afraid of technology. As well as the Royal Naval Division which provided infantry, the Admiralty also had Armoured cars, its own air force in the RNAS and a number of Armoured Trains. A search of the forum should provide previous threads and info on each of the above. At one point there was a rumour of cavalry in the shape of the Royal Naval Hussars but this turned out to be only a rumour regards Michael D.R.
