Hi All

Duncan states that Hugh died as a result of his war experiences. If that is correct (death cert. Swansea,11a, 1025, 14.10.1920) then shouldn't he be commemorated on the CWGC?

Regards Barry

On the evidence supplied, then yes.

Inspection of the death certificate is necessary and must show the cause of death as a condition which was caused or aggravated by service.

The absence of a service record hinders things, but what does his pension card say?

There are two records, but I don't have a subscription to Fold3.  The transcription says,   "Discharged 25/4/19 Disabillity.  - B.1885.  Residence, Pontyshute cottages, Landore, Swansea." and "Other Ranks Died - Death Date 14/10/20. Elvina Hooper, Widow."

OK.

Well I can't find him on the CWGC website.

You (Witneyjack) must get his death certificate to see what the cause of death was.

You can get reduced rate PDF copies of the entry in the GRO for £7.

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp

He may have died of disease or wounds attributable to his war service.

But he might have died of something else, in which case, the CWGC wouldn't have deemed him for inclusion.

Hi Duncan,

Hugh Royston Hooper, the baby in the photo, was born 10th June, 1916 (from your Ancestry Tree), have you sent for his birth cert.? Father's occupation MAY give service number/Regt.. 11a, 2034, Swansea.

Regards Barry
