Guest paddy Posted 12 November , 2003 Share Posted 12 November , 2003 Dean OK I have to admit it. I have taken offence. Your education has been sadly neglected if you think that any self respecting antipodean would wait to RECEIVE his SRD, rather than scrounging his needs from those poor suckers who didn't have enough sense to keep clear. It's a well known fact that the Australians soon tired of the recently vintaged wines available at the Estaminets, particularly the vin-blanc. They picked bunches of grapes, threw them in the air, and waited for the PLONK. Broaden your perspective, try watching Paul Hogan in ANZACS, & stay out of those Canadian sites. The Australian War Memorial site at least acknowledges that others were there on August 8. The Official Canadian site reckons that Germany's Black Day, was allcozza Canada. ooRoo Patrick

Guest paddy Posted 18 November , 2003 Share Posted 18 November , 2003 Please take no offence at this I have seen the Barons seat at RCMI in Toronto, and yes the holes in the back of the seat are mounting holes. G'day One ate two! Now that we are friends & have buried the hatchet, I must admit to being puzzled by one major aspect of the actual historical debate. Are you sure the seat is Manfred's? I understand that the Australians did have a reputation for "souveniring" EG The Menin Gate Lions, The Amiens Gun & Private Himes. The attached photo shows the remnant of the plane in question, UNDER ARMED AUSTRALIAN GUARD, and there's no sign of the seat. To complicate things, at least 2 museums in Belgium invite you to see the Red Baron's Plane. Presumably they both have seats. Now, there's no chance that someone was sold a Pup, [sopwith or otherwise] U LOL 2 Cobber!

182 CEF Posted 18 November , 2003 Share Posted 18 November , 2003 Paddy. The Royal Canadan Military Insitute on Universty Ave ( I gotta learn how to spell) Is a well known and respected org. As I understand it, most MvR experts agree that it is the real thing. The rest of their Canadian Collection is second to none. They also have documentation that conferms it is correct.
