Malcolm Posted 26 October , 2003 Share Posted 26 October , 2003 Peter McCaig was ex Scottish Horse and died 27th September 1918 age 22. He is on my local Memorial and is buried at Haynecourt, France. Can anyone supply more info please? I believe he was flying a Sopwith Camel. Thanks Aye Malcolm
Dolphin Posted 26 October , 2003 Share Posted 26 October , 2003 Lt Peter McCaig from Stoneykirk, Wigtown, was flying Sopwith Camel B6421 of No 54 Sqn RAF when he was killed on 27 September 1918. He left on a bombing mission at 11.35 that morning, and was last seen at 2000 feet spinning down out of control north-north-west of Cambrai. There were two German claims which may have been Lt McCaig: Ltn Fritz Rumey of Jasta 5 claimed a Camel east of Marquion at 1205 (his 45th, and final victory), while OfStv Josef Mai of Jasta 5 claimed a Camel at Bertry at 1210 (his 29th of 30 victories).
