In the zone of action of the 7th Infantry Brigade, the 2d battalion 47th Infantry attacked Bazoches from the southeast on the afternoon of the 9th. The right of the battalion reached the route nationale No.31 and the left entered the eastern outskirts of the village. Coming under heavy fire from the village and the heights to the north, the battalion fell back to the railroad and later withdrew across the Vesle behind the line of the 3rd battalion 47th infantry.
