Remembered Today:

Serving in several regiments?

I know very little about the war service of my Grandfather Arthur Ernest Morris 30 Alma St Hoxton.

What I think I remember my dad telling me is that he was in the Machine Gun Corps (although I suppose he could have just been a machine gunner), was gassed out of the war and ended up in Ireland possibly crewing an armourded car. Anyway I have looked up the medal cards and found a possible candidate Arthur E Morris who is listed as serving in

M.G.C.

Lond R.

T.R. Bn

R.E.

Each has a different service number.

Does this fit with the garbled history I have outlined?

Phil,

There are also a few A. Morris medal cards from the MGC, so you cannot easily tell if this is your man.

You will need his army service record, which may not exist (two thirds lost in WW2). He might have served after the war, looking at 'armoured cars' and 'Ireland' so perhaps his post war service record exists with the MOD.

In the meantime, have a look at the medal cards and compare to the CWGC casualty lists for A. Morris, MGC and you can at least eliminate those from the list and thus narrow it down a bit.
