HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 4 August , 2006 Share Posted 4 August , 2006 That is it! To be Commissioned they had to be discharged from the Ranks~hence Discharged to Commission. Details of his Commission may be found in the London Gazette online{with a l'il bit of luck!}
Coldstreamer Posted 4 August , 2006 Share Posted 4 August , 2006 Thought it was but not entirely sure Had a quick look on the gazette for you but nothing obvious http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveSe...amp;Referer=WW1 Ian

Black Watch Posted 5 August , 2006 Author Share Posted 5 August , 2006 Having problems getting any further with this. One name that crops up is David Stanley Evans of 4th Liverpool but his number is 36106. Is it possible that one person would have 2 numbers in same regiment. 36106 David Stanley Evans was acting corporal then 2nd lieut with 6th manchester, 58079 D.S. (Stanley) Evans was acting corporal then discharged to commission after which I can't find him anywhere. Neil

Unlikely in this context, they would appear to be different men, have you obtained his Medal Roll page, that might help & possibly his Officer service papers survive? If he remained serving post 1920 he may be listed in HMSO's:~ Officers Services 1920,a huge tome about 8" thick that details Officers still serving post war.{your library should be able to order it}
Black Watch Posted 6 August , 2006 Author Share Posted 6 August , 2006 Well I bit the bullet and ordered another mic and.......... Either they are the same person or NA have got mixed up too. Anyone understand all the stuff below centre line? Wonder if I can get a refund for my first £3.
Black Watch Posted 7 August , 2006 Author Share Posted 7 August , 2006 It seems my man joined on 2/8/16 and was sent to Salonica, but as far as I can see the 4th Liverpool were part of 98th Regt 33rd Division from Feb 1916 and were in FF from then until the end of the war. Anyone have any ideas about this? Neil
PhilB Posted 8 August , 2006 Share Posted 8 August , 2006 May I suggest a scenario? He joined 4th Kings. He changed to 14th Kings (See 2 lines of Kings entries) and went to Salonika with them. Phil B
Black Watch Posted 8 August , 2006 Author Share Posted 8 August , 2006 Yeah, thats a possibility, Is there anyway I can check this?
PhilB Posted 8 August , 2006 Share Posted 8 August , 2006 I can`t think how you could check, unless some Kings expert out there... But I can`t see any other explanation? Phil B
