IanA Posted 4 August , 2006 Share Posted 4 August , 2006 I have a fair number of British and German nose caps mostly brass, some with steel tips, but one is puzzling me. It also has a steel tip but appears to be made of Zinc (trying to clean it using acid caused a right old fizzing! I am not a 'collector' of these things (just picking them up if I happen to stumble across one on one of my walks) so I would be interested to know whether zinc was commonly used for this purpose? Did both sides use it? Was it used for a specific purpose? Cheers, Ian
Cnock Posted 4 August , 2006 Share Posted 4 August , 2006 Hello Ian, Due to the shortage of messing, the Germans used zinc in the making of different types of fuzes. Regards, Cnock
