Hello. Just was put onto this web site a few days ago. Excellent site.

In reference to the reply about 87th cap badges and collars. a clarification is required. The cap is about $20 to $40 (Cdn or US), but the collars are a bit of an issue. There are different patterns of collars for the 87th, the badge styles being scarce items and may run as much as $100 to acquire a matched pair. There are two different badge patterns, one with the cypher on maple leaf and one with the battalion number over CGG all within an annulus. The C/87 collar numerals are probably more correct for the front line battalions and are also more reasonably priced at about $25-$30 for a pair.

Welcome Bill, I'm glad you took my advice (I hope it was me :).

Pals, I think you'll find fellow Canuck Bill to be a valuable resource. He knows a lot more than me, and that's for sure!

Peter (now back in Vancouver)

This took awhile but I think that I have this badge identified. It appears to be a Canadian Garrison Regiment cap badge. Later in World War One, soldiers who were convalescing in Canada, no longer fit for active duty, or in some cases, newly recruited, were put into the garrison battalions. They could still perform limited duties and training. They were present in every Military District and used to guard interment and detention camps, as well as garrison duties in Halifax, Esquimalt and Quebec City.

This man's physical condition would lend credence to duties in a Garrison Battalion.

Thanks Bill for the information on the 87th badges. I am a technological primitive but a friend is going to put Alexander McClintock's picture up as my avatar and I will ask him to post it in this thread so you can tell me what he's wearing.
