Jonathan Saunders Posted 14 July , 2006 Share Posted 14 July , 2006 Never heard of it but Sheerness is actually a town on the Isle of Sheppey - so Sheerness is one small corner of Sheppey. It would have been nearly all farm land - as it still is, well nearly, so Home Farm might still exist as a Farm. You could try contacting Sheerness Reference library?? mickgall Posted 16 July , 2006 Share Posted 16 July , 2006 Hi Mike I've just had a good look at OS explorer map 149 and there doesn't appear to a Home farm on the island anymore. I also looked in the kent AZ street atlas for any roads in Sheerness named Home farm or similar in the title but again nothing. However there is a Holm Place about 1mile south of Sheerness, GR 924 731, but thats more towards a village called Halfway. There is also a Holiday camp as you leave Sheerness on the A250, and there is a rifle range just to the east of this in Bartons Point Coastal Park so these could have been military at some point. Try this link to multi-map, it shows the area I talking about , I think its from the th OS landranger maps, slightly smaller scale than the map I used. http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?cli...=187&up.y=5 hope some of this helps Mick

The reference comes from my grandfather's war diary and I think the spelling is probably right. Mike
