stan Posted 13 July , 2006 Posted 13 July , 2006 Looking at this picture of the IWM's BE2c I noticed that the trailing edge outboard tip of the elevator is swept up. This is on both port and starboard sides (I have a picture of the other side as well). Is this the result of bad handling or some sort of washout? I have never heard of washout on elevators before!
Adrian Roberts Posted 14 July , 2006 Posted 14 July , 2006 I haven't noticed this in any pictures of BE2c 's or any other WW1 type. Could it have warped in the sun? The IWM Be2c is slung under the roof of the atrium, under the transparent arched roof - must get hot and humid up there. Adrian
stan Posted 14 July , 2006 Author Posted 14 July , 2006 I'm thinking warped too. Over doped? Or sun? I onder what effect this would have on flying?????
FAAAEd Posted 14 July , 2006 Posted 14 July , 2006 I'm thinking warped too. Over doped? Or sun? I onder what effect this would have on flying????? Would act like a trim tab and cause the elevator to float down and thus the aircraft's nose down into a dive, one difficult to get out of, but then I doubt that it would get off the ground in the first instance.
