Ken Devitt Posted 12 July , 2006 Share Posted 12 July , 2006 Dave, No trace of him having worked in pubs. He spent time in Ireland after the war and became chief of staff for overseas operations in the Free State Army. Married Eileen Guerin from Kerry and had two children. Served as commander general of the International Brigade in the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1938. Joined the Army in 1939 and appointed Lieutenent in the Cheshire Regiment. Resigned his commission after being court-martialled for an alleged fraudulent claim - the use of public transport while he was travelling in a War Office car - to the value of £2.50. He returned to work in the Post Office in which he had been employed prior to the outbreak of War in 1914. He died in 1960 and is buried in an unmarked grave, Southern Cemetery, Manchester. So I guess there was little time to run pubs! Correction: There is now a private headstone on his grave Regards, Ken
Patrick H Posted 12 July , 2006 Share Posted 12 July , 2006 An unmarked grave? how sad I would have thought with all that time in service 1WW, Irish Free State Army, International Brigade and 2WW and with 2 children some one would have cared enough Patrick
