I am trying to assist a work colleague with finding out about his Maternal Grandfather who was:

2 Lieut A Wheatley 18 . 12 W/Yorks R

Can anybody help in identifying which Bn (the above comes as on his 1914/15 Star and can anybody help with anything else on this officer.

Many thanks

Bob

He is probably this man:

Medal card of Wheatley, Arthur

Corps Regiment No Rank

West Yorkshire Regiment 18/1439 Warrant Officer Class 2

King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Second Lieutenant

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=1

His number as a Sergeant Major would have been issued by the 18th Battalion, but he may have transferred aftewards so one can't be positive. The date of arriving overseas from his 1914-15 Star entitlement will help if you download the card itself.

Steve.

Thanks for that Steve, I've now got my work colleague checking with the family for what his first name was, and then have a look at the BWM & Vic, I'll get back online once I get the info.
