The following is a quote from the St. Edmundsbury Borough Council Web-site.

The Bury Free Press ran a series of anti German articles, with veiled references to a supposedly pro German local innkeeper. The Griffin was attacked by locally billetted Royal Engineers on 15th May, following these articles.

Grateful for any information regarding this incident and the exact location of the pub involved.

Thanks for the links however this must be a different incident as I believe itd the Bury St.Edmunds area that I'm looking at.
