Thank you Myrtle. Also Stoker Albert Williamson from Lower Halstow who also died in the Hawke.

For whatever reason Albert, you never made it to the village war memorial but you are remembered here shipmate

Also,

ROBERT STOCKELL

Boy 1st Class

J/25783

H.M.S. "Hawke.” Royal Navy

who died on

Thursday 15 October 1914 . Age 17. Son of Mrs. Eva Stokell, of 2, Clapham Yard,

Northallerton, Yorks. Native of Bedale.

I feel slightly ashamed I'm a day late on this one, Robert Stockell is the only sailor on Bedale war memorial and also the youngest of all those commemorated.

Also of 342117 Chief Armourer George Nicklin

Died HMS Hawke 15/10/14

From Droitwich in Worcestershire. About as far from the sea as you can get! Nevertheless, there are two Royal Navy names on the WW1 memorial

Alec

I have often thought the same (within Wales) about the three Royal Navy men commemorated on The Rhayader Memorial.
