Did these units supply drafts of men to other battalions (i.e. in theatres of war) or was it considered more important to keep a good number of professional soldiers in India? Paul Reed Posted 24 December , 2002 Share Posted 24 December , 2002 I think in the early stage of the war there weren't enough to leave India 'unguarded' - remember there had been fighting on the NWF in 1908. A further uprising took place in 1915, and the regular battalions that remained were kept here for the rest of the war. I don't think they sent many personnel to F/F - certainly this wasn't the case with 1st Royal Sussex, whose officers didn't even seek appointments outside of India!
