Guest Frank Muirhead Posted 30 June , 2006 Share Posted 30 June , 2006 I am trying to find out details of a Private Stewart Holmes who was serving in the Seaforth's at Cromer, Norfolk in 1917, Stewart was awarded an RNLI Silver medal for Bravery for acting as a launcher when the Lifeboat launched from the beach to the swedish ship FERNEBO. Stewart led a party of men who linked arms and waded out into freezing seas to save six seamen whose small boat had overturned. I would like to find out more about this unique man for display in our new Henry Blogg Museum in Cromer. I also understand that Stewart was awarded an RNLI pension after becoming ill after this event, this was returned intact to the RNLI after his death. Any help as to how to find him and what happened to his medal would be welcome. Honorary Archivist, Henry Blogg Museum, Cromer.

Guest Frank Muirhead Posted 20 September , 2006 Share Posted 20 September , 2006 I have been given a copy of the attestation form of 2405 Stewart Holmes, home address as 80 New City Road, Glasgow, dated 22nd October 1914 to the Territorial Army 4th Reserve Seaforths. He was discharged on 12th August 1915 under Para 392(vi)(a) KR's after serving 297 days. Would this be prior to signing on for his service in the Regular Army? It seems we have the same soldier but with different service numbers. Any ideas. Frank
eltoro1960 Posted 20 September , 2006 Share Posted 20 September , 2006 Frank Reg VI KR relates to making a false declaration as to your age, so basically I think he would have lied about his age, got found out, discharged and then re-enlisted when he was old enough or maybe lied again.
