Thanks Dawn.

There will be tears!

Tracking all this on the maps makes it appear unlikely that we can even walk to the events, esp. Ulster Tower, within a reasonable distance.

You can approach the area from the North via the D919 but you then get tied up with all the closed roads. Ditto from the South.

And the exclusion zone starts Friday evening. I am really glad now that I have moved my trip back to September. This will be no fun - or at least a lot less fun than in a normal year - see you all there in 2007 !

The Thiepval Project website has just been updated if you are wanting more news for the 1st July.

Dawn.... :)

From this it seems that the shuttle buses start running at 8am, is that right? How does one get to La boiselle for 07.30am?

  • 2 weeks later...

I was wondering about all these restrictions on road travel on the Somme for the 1st July. What about the locals who live and earn their living in the closure zone. Will they be able to carry on with their normal routine, or will they be restricted to where they can drive or walk aswell.

Imagine the scene... poor old Pierre runs out of milk for his cuppa tea. He tells his wife "I am just poppin down le shop pour le milk, ta ta " He walks down the road and gets ambushed by the SAS !!!
