Stebie9173 Posted 13 June , 2006 Share Posted 13 June , 2006 The 12th Middlesex wasn't at Hangard Wood in April 1918. It had been disbanded on 13th February 1918. Are you looking for anything or anyone specific? Steve.
mutley Posted 14 June , 2006 Author Share Posted 14 June , 2006 Steve thanks for the information regarding disbandment, it has probably answered my questions or at least ended one avenue of research. I am researching an individual who won the MM at Hangard Wood on 24/4/18 with the 2/2 Londons, he was 12th Middlesex and his medals are named to the Middlesex Regt. and his 4th Army Award Certificate also shows him as 12th Middlesex Regt but in addition states attached to 2/2 Londons. He doesn't appear in the 2/2 Londons history so I was trying to find out if there was a 12th Middlesex War Diary for that period. Your answer makes me think he had transferred across to 2/2 Londons when they disbanded. many thanks Mutley
Mark Posted 10 December , 2006 Share Posted 10 December , 2006 Just seen this thread whilst searching for something else. I don't have my records any longer but IIRC, 2/2 Londons were re-inforced by a large number of 12th Middlesex Regiment men in April 1918. 2/2 Londons suffered badly at La Fere on 21 March with the majority of the battalion either killed or captured. Remnants of 2/2, 3rd, 2/4 and 8th Londons were formed together and fought in the retreat across the Crozat Canal. They arrived at Longeau on the 6/7 April 1918 and it was around this time the 2/2 Londons were re-inforced. The remaining members of 2/2 Londons formed the nucleus of D Company.
