simon2 Posted 13 June , 2006 Share Posted 13 June , 2006 Garron, I'm sure one of the other more experienced members could provide more detailed events but I'll have a go. I'm still having trouble locating unit, regimental diaries. There are diaries for the 111th Brigade at the NA but not for the 13th(service) Batt KRRC. They were attached to the 21st Div, and then the 37th Division which was in the Ypres area early 1918. It was involved in the German March offensive starting 21st March. Your man must have been killed in earlier skirmishes,or artillery fire etc. He is buried in the Lijssenthoek Cemetery 12 Km west of Ypres. It is the largest Commonwealth Cemetery in Belgium. Regards, Simon.
Garron Posted 13 June , 2006 Author Share Posted 13 June , 2006 Thanks Simon, You details are great, So its likely he was killed in skirmishes or arty fire and They were attached to the 21st Div, and then the 37th Division which was in the Ypres area early 1918. more details to add to the big puzzle (as no one seem to know who this man was) The owner of the plaque has connections with bridgend (his POB) but thats its. Cheers Garron
simon2 Posted 13 June , 2006 Share Posted 13 June , 2006 Garron, That would tie up with the details on the CWGC which has his parents Sidney and Francis of 7 Felin Fach Road,Tondu,Bridgend,Glam. Have you downloaded his Medal Index Card at the NA ? They might have his service record as well but only by going yourself or paying someone to search for you. This would give you much more info. Regards, Simon.
Garron Posted 13 June , 2006 Author Share Posted 13 June , 2006 no i havent downloaded it yet Simon, i can then also see what medals are missing as there werent any with the plaque. simon2 Posted 13 June , 2006 Share Posted 13 June , 2006 Garron, I was hoping you had his service number as there was a possible 12 matches, if I remember correctly, of MIC's online. Let me know when you find out anything else. I would be interested.
Garron Posted 13 June , 2006 Author Share Posted 13 June , 2006 i found him on the census (just the search page, havent seen the acctual page tho) Tom Robathan 4 Glamorgan Ton Du Glamorganshire Ynysawdre Entire so we can word out his year of birth to 1897 and he died in early march aged 21 so his birthday is after march (not much to go on but its all helping)
