The Hull Pals (10th Bn. East Yorks) diary records (1/1/17) - 'Capt. Lambert, G.F. awarded MM.'

I thought the Military Medal was only for OR and NCO's?

Guy Fitzroy Lambert was awarded the MC in the New Years Honours of 1st January 1917. There is likely to be no published citation for his deed.

Thanks for that, just checked my scanned copy of the original diary and the exact words on 1/1/17 are:

'Capt. Lambert, G.F., awarded MIL. MEDAL'.

Typo I guess.

Could be a French Medaille Militaire - 'Military Medal' - but unlikely, being an officer (unless for non-commissioned prior service?)
