"Poppy" crosses

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I did a search and failed to find anything...

Among the possessions of my late father-in-law - who drove Army lorries in France through WWI - I found a photograph of a war grave of somebody who was clearly a good friend of his. As my f-in-l never again set foot in France - and who can blame him? - I thought it would be appropriate for my daughter and me to go to the cemetery (which is only just outside Calais) and take one of the little wooden poppy crosses on his behalf.

However, I can't find where to buy them in the UK. I checked out the Royal British Legion website, but they only seem to deal in poppy-decorated umbrellas, cufflinks and the like.

I have seen these crosses on sale at Thiepval and other similar locations, but I only need to go to Calais and don't need to trek off that far.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, please? Many thanks in advance.

Good for you! I should go, in person, to your local branch of the British Legion and ask there. When I went to mine I was given a small poythene sack full! You could try phoning first but I'm sure you will get a positive response.

For your info I think the one's I have are now made from some kind of plastic so they last a bit longer.

Hello Angela.

I have always found my local British Legion Branch very helpful in this respect, I have often popped in before trips to the Battlefields to get a supply of Poppy Crosses and have always been successful.

In fact I went in a few days ago and obtained a Poppy Wreath and 6 Poppy Crosses for my visit to the Ypres Salient in three weeks time.

I have accepted an offer received via PM from a forum member to send me a couple of crosses, so am fixed up now.
