gnr.ktrha Posted 8 June , 2006 Share Posted 8 June , 2006 Hello, What does the 'Para' Badge look like. Is it a set of jump wings or is it the Airbourne Peguses badge? In WW2 there were specialy trained RA units which were part of the Air landing Brigade, some had special regimental shoulder titles. Also, there were a number of Gunners who had compleated the parachute training course, so would able to wear the Para wings badge. There was also an RA unit which wore the Airbourne badge on their cuff, I think it was because their guns had supported the troops at Oosterbeek during the last days of the Arnhem Battle, Regards, Stewart

CROONAERT Posted 8 June , 2006 Share Posted 8 June , 2006 It's a Parachute Qualification badge. This was never unique to the Parachute Regiment and was worn by any soldier who had completed the parachute course (assuming he qualified of course!!!), no matter what unit. This remains the same to this day (I believe! - my experience is about 10 years out of date now!!!). As mentioned by Stewart, some RA units were (and still are) airborne (along with other services - RS, RE, RAOC, RAMC, etc etc.) and qualify for the maroon beret, wings and pegasus (eagle now!). All are regarded as part of the same fraternity, no matter what the badge - it's the colour of the beret that counts! At Arnhem, the (Airborne) RA units involved were : 1st Airlanding AT Bty., 2nd Airlanding AT Bty., 1st Airlanding Light Regiment and 1st Airlanding Forward Observation Unit. Dave.
