Joe Walsh Posted 7 June , 2006 Share Posted 7 June , 2006 Well after a lot of work and no freetime I´ve finally made it on holday in Majorca, and yes I´m writing it here in the sun in an open computer room, I hope you´re all enjoying the rain! Though I did here the weathers good in the isles. Anyway yesterday I went to deia, where Robert Graves spent the latter part of his life, and I went around the town and what not and visited his grave, the village was very pretty. I will post pictures when I get home. P.S. Work will be done my website as soon as I get back.
SilverSoldier Posted 7 June , 2006 Share Posted 7 June , 2006 Joe. Sunny here yesterday and today and good weather to last for a few more days apparently! Holiday? Whats that!! Seriously! Did you manage to take a photograph of his resting place? Graves is one of my favourite WW1 Poets. Regards. Terry W.
charlesmessenger Posted 7 June , 2006 Share Posted 7 June , 2006 I spent a week in Deia last autumn and was very touched to see a miniature cross and poppy on the grave, placed there by a WFA member. Charles M PS Hope you enjoyed the food in the village. It has some fantastic restaurants.
Myrtle Posted 7 June , 2006 Share Posted 7 June , 2006 I visited Deia November before last. I had often wondered why Robert Graves settled there and had heard that it reminded him of his childhood home at Harlech. When I went there I understood; it is a very beautiful place. Paul Hederer Posted 8 June , 2006 Share Posted 8 June , 2006 I'm really looking forward to the pictures. I lived in Greece in the early 80's and always had the silly notion of going to visit Robert Graves in Majorca, but never did. I'm sure he would have been thrilled to see me. MAW Posted 9 June , 2006 Share Posted 9 June , 2006 I visited this most beautiful village whilst trekking in the Tramuntana mountain range in the north of the island. Due to the lack of space in this small cemetery tucked away amongst the village houses, the internees are buried vertically. Mr. Graves, of course, asked for his body to be buried upside down!
