highland Posted 5 June , 2006 Share Posted 5 June , 2006 A big hello from a longtime 'lurker', I've finally had to post! The site and forum are just brilliant, and answer so many questions. I spend hours on here just fascinated by all the topics, and the genuine enthusiasm from you all is infectious! I've attached (hopefully) an extract from the medal roll concerning my Great Uncle, Pte William Ross (202892). I just wondered what the 'OHC' or OWC' pencillings beside his name mean? Probably nothing significant, but you are all like me I'm sure, in that you just have to find out these things! There are SP and others I'm curious about, but mainly the ones next to my Uncle's name. I'm hoping some fresh eyes see this post, there was an almost identical post and attachment a few months ago, but nobody could help. If the same letters are written on lots of medal roll extracts, surely somebody must know...?! Thanks for your time in looking at this! With kind regards
doogal Posted 5 June , 2006 Share Posted 5 June , 2006 Basically, we're all stumped on that one. There's been a couple of threads about these abreviations - not specifically these ones, but those appearing in the same manner on medal rolls. Hopefully, someone does know, and will hopefully (please) tell the forum exactly what they mean "O" is a much used note found on the rolls. regards doogal

highland Posted 19 June , 2006 Author Share Posted 19 June , 2006 Hello and thanks to all, I am quite satisfied now that I know there is no known answer to this, rather than an answer I didn't have! You're all very kind and very fast, thanks again. With much appreciation.
