"Gittins was murdered" says my father, hence his medals were in the keeping of his wartime comrade, my grandfather Claude.

Have you any idea when he was murdered? I found no mention of his death anywhere. He survived until 1921 at least, when his 1914 star clasp was issued/claimed.

No, I'm afraid not. His medals were never hung though, if that's the right word. They're still in the box and the ribbons are unused. I'm not sure where to enquire about this sort of thing.

His 1914 star was issued in May 1919, his pair much later, probably with the clasp in 1921. Perhaps he was murdered in service after this? He was commissioned in the MGC in 1917 & served in the Black Sea theatre of ops after 1919. Well worth researching, as he was an original RND Antwerp, Gallipoli, BEF man.
